Changing a flight booking: price the change before accepting it.
A “free change” can still include a fare difference. The cheapest solution can be moving the original ticket, buying a new flight or changing only one sector—but you need the full calculation first.

Live fare search
Compare the live options before you decide.
Use the guide to narrow the decision, then compare current bookable flights.
Correct starting point
Use the provider that issued the ticket.
Open the confirmation and identify whether the booking was issued by the airline, Travelstart or another agent. Use that provider’s manage-booking channel unless instructed otherwise.
Before making a change, write down which passengers and sectors must move. Online tools can apply a change to every traveller in the booking.
Price the full change
Change fee plus fare difference plus extras.
| Cost item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Change penalty | Whether the selected fare charges one |
| Fare difference | Difference between old and new flight inventory |
| Baggage and seats | Whether paid extras transfer or must be selected again |
| Passenger scope | One passenger or everyone in the booking |
| Return sector | Whether it remains unchanged and active |
| Agent servicing | Any issuer-specific processing condition |
A fare advertised as flexible can still require payment when the new flight costs more.
Final confirmation
A request is not complete until the new ticket is issued.
Check the new date, time, route, airport, passenger names, baggage and payment. Save the updated itinerary and ticket confirmation.
If the trip includes separate bookings, changing one does not automatically protect the next. Recheck every connection and transfer.
Before confirming
Use a six-point change checklist.
| Check | Action |
|---|---|
| 1. Booking channel | Open the airline or travel provider that issued the ticket. Another party may be unable to service it. |
| 2. New flight details | Confirm date, airport, departure time and passenger names before authorising the change. |
| 3. Full price | Ask for the change fee, fare difference, service fee and any extras that must be repurchased. |
| 4. Remaining sectors | Check that the return or onward flight remains active after one part of the itinerary changes. |
| 5. Ticket status | Do not rely only on a payment receipt. Look for the revised itinerary or reissued ticket confirmation. |
| 6. Final verification | Reopen manage booking and confirm the new flight is visible before arranging transport or accommodation. |
Keep screenshots and reference numbers. If a change is urgent, use the provider's official support channel and avoid sending card or identity details through unverified accounts.
Common questions
Questions travellers ask before booking.
Can I change my flight date online?
Many airlines offer online changes, but agent-issued tickets may need to be serviced by the agent.
What does a free flight change mean?
It usually means no change penalty. A fare difference can still apply.
Can I change one passenger in a group booking?
Sometimes online tools change all passengers. Contact the provider if only one traveller must move.
Can I change the route as well as the date?
It depends on the airline and fare. Ask for the total repricing before confirming.

Search exact dates and judge the final fare, not an old advertised price.
