About the airline
The regional carrier filling the gaps.
CemAir is a privately owned South African airline founded in 2005, flying scheduled services with a fleet of Bombardier CRJ regional jets and Dash 8 turboprops. Those smaller aircraft are the whole point: they can operate from the short runways and quiet airports that the Boeing and Airbus operators can't serve economically.
That's why CemAir's route map looks different. Alongside trunk connections from Johannesburg and Cape Town, it flies to places like Plettenberg Bay, Margate, Sishen, Kimberley, Bloemfontein and Hoedspruit — destinations where it's often one of only two options, or the only one. For Garden Route and KZN South Coast travellers, CemAir can save a long drive from the nearest major airport.
CemAir fare inclusions and route availability should be confirmed during booking. On lower-frequency regional routes, comparing early and checking nearby dates can matter more than waiting for a sale. Where CemAir overlaps with Airlink or FlySafair, comparing all three side by side is the only way to know who wins on your dates.

Check what the CemAir fare actually includes
Check the baggage allowance on the selected CemAir fare and route, and verify cabin size limits for the operating aircraft. Do not carry an allowance from a different domestic, regional or interline itinerary into the comparison.

CemAir FAQs
Questions travellers ask.
Where does CemAir fly?
CemAir connects Johannesburg and Cape Town with regional destinations the bigger airlines skip — Plettenberg Bay, Margate, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Sishen, George, Gqeberha and Hoedspruit among them. The schedule evolves, so run a live search for current routes on your dates.
Is CemAir a safe, reliable airline?
Yes — CemAir is a licensed South African scheduled carrier founded in 2005, operating under full SACAA oversight. It has flown scheduled services for over a decade and also leases aircraft and crews to operators around the world.
What planes does CemAir use?
Bombardier CRJ regional jets and Dash 8 turboprops. These smaller aircraft handle the short runways at regional airports — exactly why CemAir can serve towns like Plettenberg Bay and Margate that jets can't reach economically.
Does CemAir include checked baggage?
Standard CemAir fares typically include a checked allowance of around 20kg plus a cabin bag. Regional aircraft can have tighter cabin-bag size limits than the big jets, so oversize hand luggage may be tagged to the hold at boarding.
